Lynwood Unified’s Top Spellers Shine at Annual District Spelling Bee

Lynwood Unified’s top spellers from all 12 elementary schools and two middle schools took center stage on February 11 for the annual District Spelling Bee, showcasing their impressive vocabulary and determination in an exciting competition.

School spelling champions in grades four through eight faced off in a spirited battle of words, cheered on by proud coaches and principals. Four judges – including the spell master – presided over the competition as students confidently spelled challenging words like “pumpernickel” and “compadre,” demonstrating poise and preparation with each round.

After several intense rounds, the field narrowed to three outstanding finalists. Adriel Vera from Hosler Middle School claimed first place and will advance to represent Lynwood Unified at the Los Angeles County Regional Spelling Bee on March 18.

This year’s top three winners, who each received trophies, are:

  • 1st place: Adriel Vera from Hosler Middle School
  • 2nd place: Alexis Mendoza from Abbott Elementary School
  • 3rd place: Alejandra Lopez from Marshall Elementary School

The District Spelling Bee reflects Lynwood Unified’s commitment to providing engaging, skill-building opportunities that inspire academic excellence. Beyond the competition, the event helps students build confidence, strengthen language skills, and create lasting memories. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and dedication!
